Zwischen Oktober 2012 und Januar 2013 veröffentlichte das Entwicklerstudio Vblank Entertainment bestehend nur aus Brian Provinciano das Game Retro City Rampage auf der PS3-, PS Vita- Xbox 360-, PC- und WiiWare-Plattform. Ende August 2013 kündigte man das Game auch für den 3DS an (Wir berichteten). Seither ist es um die 3DS-Version sehr leise geworden.
Mit einem sehr umfangreichen Blogeintrag hat Brian Provinciano jetzt einige Informationen zur 3DS-Vesion Retro City Rampage veröffentlicht. So soll das Game 2014 für $ 9.99 im Nintendo eShop erscheinen. Alle Verbesserungen, zusätzliche Features, neue Missionen und so weiter, die in den anderen Versionen via Updates nachgeliefert wurden, sind in der 3DS-Version bereits integriert. Auch wurde die UI speziell für die zwei Bildschirme vom 3DS umgebaut und angepasst.
