Update:
Auf Nachfrage haben Ubisoft bestätigt, dass Einzelspielerspiele weiterhin spielbar sind. Dies betrifft auch Assassin´s Creed Liberation HD, dessen Steam-Seite die ursprüngliche Meldung begründete. DLCs sind allerdings weiterhin betroffen sowie das 2019 erschienene Space Junkies. Bei Space Junkies handelt es sich um einen VR-Mehrspielertitel.
Allerdings gibt es auch gute Nachrichten. So haben Ubisoft Mainz bekannt gegeben, dass man daran arbeitet, die Online-Infrastruktur von Anno 2070 zu patchen. Dadurch sollen die Online-Features weiterhin unterstützt werden. Wobei man nicht garantieren kann, dass dieser Versuch von Erfolg gekrönt sein wird.
Ursprüngliche Meldung:
Ubisoft haben begonnen die Onlinefunktionen von älteren Spielen zu entfernen und damit einhergehend den Verkauf der Spiele und DLCs auf Steam eingestellt. Dieses Vorgehen ist jetzt nicht unüblich. Allerdings ist auch eine Notiz auf Steam aufgetaucht, dass ab dem 1. September die Spiele nicht mehr zugänglich sind und die gekauften DLCs nicht mehr heruntergeladen werden können. Damit können Käufer auf Steam nicht mehr auf ihren gekauften Inhalte zugreifen, was in der Form doch außergewöhnlich ist.
Ironischerweise war eines der betroffenen Spiele Assassin’s Creed Liberation HD noch Bestandteil des kürzlich beendeten Steam Summer Sale, wo bei einem Rabatt von 75% sicherlich einige Käufer zugeschlagen haben. An sich wirft diese Entscheidung auch einige Fragen auf, wie mit solchen Umständen umgegangen werden soll, wenn der digitale Anteil der verkauften Spiele immer weiter steigt und manche Konsolen mittlerweile über kein Laufwerk mehr verfügen.
