Revisionen in Sachen Hardware sind in der Technikszene normale Sache. Ist das Endprodukt erstmal im Handel angekommen, so beginnen normalerweise die Arbeiten an einer Hardware-Revision. Dies kann aus unterschiedlichen Gründen passieren: Entweder will man durch andere, meiste kostengünstigere Systemteile die Gesamthardware günstiger anbieten - im Sinne einer PS4 Slim, PSP-2000 etc. - oder man will die Hardware technisch anpassen, um diese eine längere Lebenszeit zu spendieren - im Sinne eines New 3DS oder die "Nintendo Switch Pro".
Auch bei der aktuellen Next Gen-Konsolen wird in naher/ferner Zukunft das Thema Hardware-Revision ein Thema sein. Während bei Sony noch keine offizielle Worte dazu gefallen sind - Gerüchte um einen Produktionsstart einer PS5 Revision für Mitte 2022 sind Anfang Mai aufgetaucht (Wir berichteten) - so hat sich Microsoft in Form von Phil Spencer beim "Unlocked"-Podcast von IGN (Klick mich!) zur Thematik geäußert: Demnach soll in der naher Zukunft keine Revision der Xbox Series X und S geplant sein. Ganz auszuschließen will man das Thema (selbstverständlich) nicht.
