Aus einer Nintendo-Pressemitteilung wird ersichtlich, dass über 21 Länder verteilt kostenlose Möglichkeitn zur Verfügung stehen werden, um den 3DS mit dem Internet zu verbinden.
Nintendo of Europe ist einen Deal mit free-hotspot.com eingegangen, dem Presseschreiben zufolge das "weltweit größte multinationale Netzwerk von exklusiven freien Hotspots".
Um über einen dieser kostenlosen Hotspots ins Internet zu können, muss man seinen 3DS jedoch auf das aktuellste und seit einigen Monaten erhältliche Systemupdate bringen, damit man diese Funktion nutzen kann.
An welchen Stellen sich diese Hotspots befinden, wird aber nicht erwähnt. Man kann jedoch ausgehen, dass dies in Hotels, an Flughäfen und ggf. auch an Bahnhöfen der Fall sein wird.
