Dass sich zwei Pokémon-Games für den 3DS und die Wii in Entwicklung befinden, ist bereits seit einigen Wochen bekannt. Die Hauptserie wird aber weiterhin auf Handhelds erscheinen, so Junichi Masuda gegenüber dem Online Gamingmagazin IGN.com
Das Pokémon-Prinzip ("kommunizieren und ständigen Datentransfer") würde eher auf einen Handheld passen als auf einer Heimkonsole. Die Heimkonsolen dagegen eignen sich eher für Partys und solche Dinge. Wie schlussendlich der Pokémon-Ableger für die Wii aussehen wird, steht bislang nicht fest. Man darf auf die Pläne von GameFreak gespannt bleiben.

"I don't think so. I think the Pokemon core series is always going to be with handheld hardware, in the future as well. I consider handheld hardware you can carry around with you as almost being equal to being with Pokemon, always. I think handheld really matches the idea of Pokemon that we have. Also, you can communicate and transfer data all the time, whenever you want with a handheld. That’s also a match with the Pokemon concept."
