Auf der Tokyo Game Show wurde vom Playstation-Vater Ken Kutaragi verkündet, dass die PS3 einen Download-Service bieten wird, bei dem PS1, PS2, PC-Engine sowie Mega Drive-Spiele zum Download verfügbar sein werden. Nun hat sich Sega zu Wort gemeldet und verkündet, dass eine Veröffentlichung von Mega Drive-Titeln noch gar nicht offiziell sei. Man würde es jedoch in Erwägung ziehen. Sega dazu:
"Distribution of Mega Drive content through [PS3] e-Distribution is something that cannot be formally announced by our company. We're now at the step of looking into it."
Sega wird auf jeden Fall Mega Drive-Titel für das Virtual Console-Projekt von Nintendo anbieten. Ebenso soll Sonic the Hedgehog auf Xbox Live Arcade erscheinen.
