Square Enix hat in einer Pressemitteilung angekündigt, dass der neueste Teil der Dragon Quest Serie, im April 2006 unter dem Namen Dragon Quest: The Journey of the Cursed King, auch in Europa veröffentlicht wird. Die Sprachausgabe wird dabei von britischen Synchronsprechern übernommen, der Soundtrack wird von einem Orchester eingespielt, das Menü-System wird überarbeitet, und es soll neue Kampftechniken sowie neue Animationen geben.
