Dass der Name der ersten Xbox nicht direkt auf diesen fiel, dürfte den meisten klar sein. So werden während der Entwicklung einer Konsole meist viele Namen gesammelt, wobei viele kreative Vorschläge zusammen kommen. Die EDGE hat nun anhand eines ausführlichen Interviews einen Einblick in die Liste der Namen gewährt bekommen. So war zunächst geplant, 'Xbox' nicht zu nutzen. Dieser Vorschlag kam vom Team, welches normalerweise für die Vergabe eines Namens zuständig ist, jedoch haben sich am Ende Seamus Blackley und sein Launch Team mit dem Namen Xbox durchgesetzt.
