In einem Gespräch mit Industrygamers ließ Roby Dyer, SVP von Sony Computer Experiment, verlauten, wie sich die Software auf der Xbox 360 im Vergleich zur PS3 verkaufte. Dabei legt Sony keinen Wert auf bloße Verkaufszahlen, sondern auf die sog. Index Ratio, also wie oft sich ein bestimmtes Game im Verhältnis zur installierten Basis verkauft.
Bevor er das näher erläuterte, gab er zu, dass die 360 einen massiven Vorsprung in der Hardware hätte. Dies sei jedoch nicht von Belang, konzentrierte man sich auf den Index Ratio. So sei dieser bei der PS3 im Vergleich zuer Xbox 360 derzeit 1,6, was bedeutet, dass sich für eine PS3 etwa 1,6 Xbox 360-Systeme verkaufen.
Bei der Software würde die PS3 laut Dyer jedoch besser dastehen:
So if you look at the index ratio and see that where they might have this massive lead on the hardware side, the people that are buying software, when the software growth is happening, it’s happening on the PS3
Auch nannte er einige Beispiele, bei denen die Software auf der PS3 besser dastünde als auf der Xbox 360. Call of Duty spielt auch mit:
In spite of all the millions that Microsoft has spent on that relationship with Activision, people aren’t voting to buy a 360 version of [Call of Duty] over and above a PS3 version, given the installed base.
Des Weiteren nannte er Mortal Kombat mit dem für die PS3 exklusiven Kratos als Beispiel, dass sich Software auf der PS3 besser verkauft:
If you have a choice between buying a PS3 version and an Xbox version of Mortal Kombat, which one are you buying? You’re buying the PS3 version because you can play as Kratos. Although Microsoft has a 1.6 to 1 index ratio against us [on hardware], we outsold them on Mortal Kombat nearly at a 1 to 1. So that is due in large part to the exclusive content that you’re getting on disc. You’ll see that happening on almost every case where we’ve had a game that they’ve supported with on disc content or with exclusive DLC.

Dazu sagte Sony:
While the 1.6 index ratio is on par with the hardware index ratio, it is below the total index for shooting genre title on both platforms of 1.9. The PS3 version exclusively included a PC version of the game and Steam integration. Also, important to note, that Valve had a heritage on Xbox and this was the first title in this generation that shipped day and date on both platforms

Besonders stolz ist Dyer auf Medal of Honor, da das für ihn bedeutet, dass die Xbox 360 nicht das Shooter-Genre beherrscht.
Es ist zu erwarten, dass Microsoft in irgendeiner Form Stellung dazu nehmen wird.
